MOIL Limited

Introduction

MOIL is a Schedule “A” Miniratna Category-I Company, currently spearheaded by Shri. M P Chaudhari, Chairman-cum-Managing Director. The name of the Company was changed from Manganese Ore (India) Limited to MOIL Limited during the financial year 2010-11.

At present, MOIL operates 10 mines, six located in the Nagpur and Bhandara districts of Maharashtra and four in the Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh. All these mines are about a century old. Except 3, rest of the mines are worked through underground method. The Balaghat Mine is the largest mine of the Company. The mine has now reached a mining depth of about 383 meters from the surface. Dongri Buzurg Mine located in the Bhandara district of Maharashtra is an opencast mine that produces manganese dioxide ore used by dry battery industry. This ore in the form of manganous oxide is used as micro-nutrient for cattle feed and fertilizers. MOIL fulfils about 50% of the total requirement of dioxide ore in India. At present, the annual production is around 1.1 million tonne which is expected to grow in the coming years.

MOIL produces and sells different grades of Manganese Ore. These are -

  • 1. High Grade Ores for production of Ferro manganese
  • 2. Medium grade ore for production of Silico manganese
  • 3. Blast furnace grade ore required for production of hot metal and
  • 4. Dioxide for dry battery cells and chemical industries.

In order to promote non-conventional energy resources, MOIL has installed 4.8 MW Wind Energy Farm at Nagda Hills and 15.2 MW Wind Farm at Ratedi Hills, Dist. Dewas in Madhya Pradesh.

Indian Institute of Skill Development (IISD), Skill Council of Mining Sector (SCMS) &MOIL Limited

Like most of the large organizations, MOIL too is determined to invest under its CSR initiative for up-skillingof their existing workforce under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), a scheme under PMKVY,by designing and conducting skill development programmes in Mining sector in consultation with SCMS.

IISD, has been associated with MOIL since 2018 as their Skill Developmentpartner and,is conducting training for job roles like Assistant Support forunderground and open cast mines, at locations Balaghat, Chikla, Dongri Buzurg and Munsar.

After completion of RPL training the candidates have to undergo a third party assessment for certification by SCMS, thereafter qualified candidates are awarded skill certification, in respective job roles.

Major objective of RPL programme is to recognize their work experience and acquired skills by certifying those workers who have been working for a number of years in a particular domain in an industry, without any formal qualification.

The main advantage of RPL training, to the certified workers, will be in terms of enhanced skills and opportunities for promotion.
